Kingdom over Boredom

Kingdom over Boredom

Did you know that small pets can get bored, just like us?

All small pets should have a variety of ways to move around their cages to keep their minds engaged. Physical activity plays a critical role in keeping any animal healthy, and our cage products are designed to be jumped on, run through, chewed on, and napped in – your pals can do it all! I personally want my chinchillas to always feel like they have new places to explore in their cage, which is why I love designing new things to give them access to as much of their living space as possible. Living in a cage shouldn't stop your small pet from experiencing new and exciting things!

Where should I put them?

You can put your pal's snazzy, new cage furniture anywhere they can be securely attached - have fun and be creative! Here are a few tips to help you decide where to place your pal's newest and coolest spot to hang. You'll want to make sure that they're:

1. Safety First!

Get creative, but always be safety-minded! Never place a ledge too high without some kind of fall protection underneath. For example, if a Chunnel is at the top of their cage, make sure there are structures within a foot below them to catch your clumsy little pal if (when) they miscalculate a jump!

2. Accessibility is Key

You may love how the Duplexagon looks tucked away in a corner as a lofty perch, but your pal may not be able to reach it! Be sure to make it easy for your pet to access, whether they're coming from the cage floor or jumping from another structure. If you’ve got a spot in mind that seems perfect but might be difficult for your pal to get to, try adding a Boardwalk or some Lil' Steps along the way to bridge the gap.

3. Security = Confidence

The last thing you want is for your pal to be scared to explore, so be sure to inspect your pal's cage bars before attaching heavier items like the Whisker Watchtower to ensure that they can freely traverse their space without worry. I’ve often come across loose or bending bars in older cages that could break under weight. Sometimes, gaps appear between bars due to regular wear and tear, so you should avoid fastening bolts and washers to these weak spots to keep your pet's setup secure and safe!

Designing a cage layout where each piece flows into the next is a fun and rewarding experience for you - and results in a more enriching space for your little pal!

How do I keep my pal's cage furniture clean?

Accidents will happen! When your pet inevitably pees on their Furnichews - don’t worry! Break out the vinegar and sandpaper! I recommend first spraying a 50/50 solution of water and white distilled vinegar solution over the affected area and wiping it down. Once it's dry, sand down the spot with sandpaper to refresh the surface. This trick works great for old stains as well!
